NHVR Latest News · Safety Alert

Young drivers are being warned they still can’t see your truck in the blind spots

NHVR has launched the ‘Don’t turn a blind eye’ campaign aimed at young drivers, warning them about heavy vehicle blind spots. That matters to you because cars cutting in, sitting beside the cab or hanging behind the trailer are still one of the most common close-call risks for truck drivers, especially in traffic and at intersections.

Operator note: On every run, leave extra space before turning or changing lanes and do a full mirror check for vehicles sitting beside the cab, just behind the trailer or tucked in front — those are the blind-spot positions this NHVR campaign is targeting.

If a mate’s gone quiet or off their game, check in early

This piece is a reminder that drivers often spot when a workmate is not travelling well before anyone says anything. Changes like going quiet on the UHF, snapping at small things, looking wrecked or missing routine tasks can be early signs that someone needs support.

Operator note: If a mate has gone quiet on the UHF, looks wrecked all the time or is missing things they normally stay on top of, pull them aside one-on-one and ask straight: ‘You alright, mate? You seem a bit off lately.’
