Facts

On 22 August 2025, SAPOL officers attended a crash at an intersection in Beverley South Australia. A prime mover towing a drake low loader trailer loaded with a crane assembly platform had collided with a strainer wire and dragged a stobie pole. The driver was unable to produce a permit as the Corporate Operator had not obtained a permit to travel. The SAPOL officer measured the height, length and width of the heavy vehicle and detected 3 offences: The vehicle’s permitted statutory height was 4.3 metres but was found to be 4.745 metres. The vehicle’s permitted statutory length was 19.0 metres but was found to be 22.6 metres. The vehicle’s permitted statutory width was 2.5 metres but was found to be 2.6 metres. The Operator submitted that the failure to obtain the permit was attributed to inadequate oversight. Since the alleged offending, the Operator has upgraded its compliance systems and the business has been sold to new owners. The company had no prior history and entered a plea of guilty at an early opportunity.
